| 20191 | World War II - Combat Chronicles - Military History Video. DVD. Boxed set of 6 discs. 12 Hours.
Over twelve hours of action-packed footage!
Disc #1: Attack and Counterattack (1941-1943) - On December 7, 1941, the horrific Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor destroyed the U.S. Pacific Fleet.
American morale reeled, but within six months, it was the enemy’s turn to suffer at the Battle of Midway.
The U.S. went on the offensive, launching a deadly campaign of amphibious assaults that began with the Solomon Islands. It was there that US forces would learn the grueling and bloody nature of war in the Pacific–Guadalcanal.
This comprehensive look at the earliest battles of World War II features actual live-action footage and gripping, dramatic wartime storytelling.
Disc #2: Victory in the Pacific (1944-1945) - The tide of war was turning and the Japanese were on the run.
Tinian fell and US captured airbases within striking distance of Tokyo. In October 1944, Japan’s imperial Navy was effectively knocked out of the war in the Battle of Leyte Gulf, followed by Iwo Jima and a 36-day battle that was the bloodiest in Marine Corps history.
Finally they reached Okinawa, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki, the last strongholds. The empire of the Rising Sun was falling.
Disc #3: Stories From Battleship Row - America never thought the Japanese could attack U.S. forces at Pearl Harbor – especially without warning. Leaders downplayed the threat to the Pacific Fleet, while focusing on the Nazi threat in Europe.
Did Roosevelt conspire with Churchill to get America into World War II, even if it meant being attacked by Japan? Why was America taken by surprise? Learn what really happened during the surprise attack at Pearl Harbor.
Disc #4: The Pacific War on Film - View the fascinating conflicts of World War II as they were captured on film. This program presents a trio of wartime documentaries produced by Academy Award-winning director John Ford.
His award-winning December 7, 1941 tells the story of Japan's surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. Shot in color, The Battle of Midway gives a blow-by-blow account of the most important naval campaign in the Pacific, and The Fighting Lady, a firsthand look at combat operations on board the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown.
Disc #5: Crucial Turning Points - Get an up-close look at the fifteen crucial battles that changed the course of the war and altered America’s destiny forever!
Caught in the onslaught of the seemingly invincible Axis war machine, the US had to fight back! This is the story of how we won, battle by battle, moment by crucial moment.
Whether on land at Guadalcanal, Normandy, and Iwo Jima; at sea in the Battle of the Atlantic and the German subs plaguing the ocean; or in the air during Pearl Harbor and Doolittle’s B-25 raid, these action-crammed turning points are covered in compelling detail.
Disc #6: Headline Stories of the 20th Century - The theatrical newsreel documented World War II with energy and thoroughness–qualities on display in the eighty-four Hearst newsreels assembled in this invaluable collection.
The remarkable footage covers such dramatic events as the rise of Hitler, the outbreak of war in Europe, the attack on Pearl Harbor, the battle at Guadalcanal, the D-Day invasion, the discovery of Auschwitz and the other camps, and much more.
Extra Feature: Our Time in Hell - One of the most powerful depictions of World War II ever caught on film, this special program features the candid first-hand account of a US Marine’s horrific experiences during World War II. |

The Battle For Torpedo Junction gives both a personal and historical perspective to one of America's closest brushes with World War II. Following the United States entrance into the war after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the German Navy launched submarines to attack and destroy the wartime shipping operation off the East Coast. The Germans anticipated the U.S. lack of preparedness for their assault and capitalized using just a handful of U-boats to sink more Allied tonnage off the East Coast, than the entire Japanese Navy could claim in the Pacific. Take a personal look at the German U-boat war on the East Coast. Visit with the witnesses and victims of the carnage and German submariners as they share their experiences of World War II. Find out why the East Coast was called torpedo alley and visit the bones of the U352 as she lies in 120' of water 26 miles off the North Carolina coast.

Take in the greatest battles of the Pacific, from Pearl Harbor to final victory in this two-DVD set.
Disc 1: Attack and Counterattack 1941-1943 - December 7, 1941 – The horrific Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor destroyed the U.S. Pacific Fleet. American morale reeled, but within six months, it was the enemy’s turn to suffer at the Battle of Midway. They lost two aircraft carriers, one cruiser, and 322 planes. The US went on the offensive, launching a deadly campaign of amphibious assaults that began with the Solomon Islands. It was there, on one obscure island, that US forces would learn the grueling and bloody nature of war in the Pacific–Guadalcanal. US forces began rolling back Japan’s early advances starting with Tarawa. Although it was only two miles long, capturing it took the four bloodiest days of the entire Pacific campaign. Meanwhile, on the Asian mainland, GIs, Marines, and their allies fought desperately for every yard of the Burma Road. This comprehensive look at the earliest battles of World War II features actual live-action footage and gripping, dramatic wartime storytelling.
Disc 2: Victory in the Pacific 1944-1945 - The tide of war was turning and the Japanese were on the run. On Saipan, 16,525 Americans were killed or wounded repelling waves of bonsai charges. Next, Tinian fell, and the U.S. captured airbases within striking distance of Tokyo. In October 1944, Japan’s imperial Navy was effectively knocked out of the war in the largest naval battle ever to take place, the Battle of Leyte Gulf. As the end drew ever nearer, US forces returned to the Philippines and liberated Manila after four months of bitter jungle fighting. Next came Iwo Jima and a thirty-six-day battle that was the bloodiest in Marine Corps history. Finally they reached Okinawa, the last stop on the way to Japan. The city and its defenders were prepared to fight to the death. After eighty-three days of combat, only 10,755 Japanese were taken alive. The remaining defenders--110,000 of them–-were dead. Following Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Japanese surrendered on the deck of the battleship Missouri. The empire of the Rising Sun had fallen.

| 20210 | Going For Broke - Military History Video. DVD. 75 Minutes.
Hosted by Senator Daniel K. Inouye, Narrated by George Takei.
On February 19, 1942, approximately sixty days after Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Imperial Forces of Japan, United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 forcibly removing 110,000 individuals of Japanese ancestry, the majority of them American citizens, to "relocation camps."
With their families imprisoned behind barbed wire, many young men volunteered from America's concentration camps to prove their loyalty and defend the United States in Europe and the Pacific during World War II.
Thousands from Hawaii, just like other young American men of their time, also volunteered. Serving in several segregated units--the 100th Infantry Battalion, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team and the Military Intelligence Service (M.I.S.)--these men fought boldly and valiantly for their country, the United States of America. The 100th/442nd R.C.T. became the most decorated unit for its size and length of service in U.S. military history, while the M.I.S. is credited for saving countless lives and for shortening the war in the Pacific.
It is these struggles that enabled the freedoms and civil rights for future generations of Japanese Americans and all Americans. These stories of bravery and courage must never be forgotten. It's all here in Going For Broke; they believed in America when America no longer believed in them.
