The
Ascent of Man.

and 16 Minutes.
The
New York
Times
called itquite simply, a milestone in programming Now, watch
Dr. Jacob Bronowski
as he has never been
seen before. New video masters have given us the ability to digitally
re-master this classic series enabling you to give your students a 21st
century viewing experience.
An American Film
Festival Award
winner, this 13 volume series attempts a massive survey of science, from
flint tools to the theory of relativity. The series, a co-production of
the BBC and Time-Life Films was made as a science counterpart to
Civilization.
It is given superb technical support, with two crews using
innovative filming techniques, shooting in 27 countries.
Dr. Jacob Bronowski,
makes for an unorthodox narrator, his non-scripted delivery ranging from
hushed awe to trembling passion. He uses the crawling infant, the
performing athlete, the development of the hunt and the discovery of

Magnificent Desolation: Walking On The
Moon 3D
- Science Video -
DVD.
Only 12 have walked on the moon. You're
next! Presented and narrated by Tom Hanks, Magnificent Desolation:
Walking on the Moon is an IMAX documentary film that transports the
viewer to lunar surface, where they can walk
alongside the 12
extraordinary astronauts who have been there, experiencing what they
saw, heard, and felt.
This IMAX presentation cuts no corners when it comes to its mission,
recreating--down to the most precise detail--the experience of landing
on the moon. An educational extravaganza, the unique film allows viewers
to experience a moonwalk in its closest approximation. The film begins
by noting the fascination that the moon has held for people over the
centuries, and looking at their fantasies about what they might find
there. Proceeding on to the astronauts who made the trip and the years
of preparation that made it possible, the film shows what the lunar
landings looked like, using sets that recreate the moon's surface with
painstaking fidelity. The film provides a brief overview of some of the
experiments the astronauts were sent to perform, capturing the gravity
of the venture as well as the joy they experienced. As they explore the
surface of the moon both by foot and by car, the perspective of the
audience becomes that of the astronauts, creating a giddy sensation not
unlike the optical illusions the space explorers themselves describe.
MAGNIFICENT DESOLATION also posits some hypothetical situations,
documenting conspiracy theories that claim the moonwalks never happened
and creating a harrowing enactment of an emergency that, thankfully,
never took place. The presentation is very kid-friendly but, paired with
the spectacular effects, it will appeal to viewers of all ages. In
addition to narrator Tom Hanks, who also produced the film, the
star-studded cast of voices includes Mathew McConaughey, Bill Paxton,
Morgan Freeman, Paul Newman, Matt Damon, John Travolta, and Donnie
Wahlberg.
This is the only Mark Cowen video.

The Weather.
BBC Video.
DVD. 3 Hour and
50 Minutes.
The Weather takes you on a
trip around the world
with
death-defying presenter
Donal MacIntyre.
While he takes on the worst the weather can throw at him, stunning
computer graphics and rare archive footage reveal the strange and often
unbelievable forces that surround us.
WIND What can wind do at it's worst? Presenter Donal MacIntyre
exposes himself to 100 mile-per-hour gales in a laboratory wind tunnel
to understand the devestating force that powered Hurricane Andrew and
created an unprecedented cluster of tornados in the midwest.
Meanwhile, two balloonists entrust their lives to the fickle forces
of the jet stream, and we learn how the earth-circling winds were put to
deadly use by the Japanese during World War II.
WET Ride with the rain from the wettest place in Europe to the
wettest place in the world, with a stop under the parched Texan skies,
where farmers hope to harness the power of nature to create rain. From
the first drop of a monsoon to the floods that kill millions each year,
water brings life and death in equal measure.
COLD Spectacular avalanches and ice storms are only a few of the
bizarre phenomena that come with winter. But what about pure cold? After
half an hour in his underwear at minus 18 degrees, Donal has to be
rescued or die, as his body begins to shut down. So how do the Inuit in
Greenland, and the Danish sledge patrol survive at 40 below? HEAT The
sun's energy can kill--in our own cities as well as in the hot deserts
of the equator.
Donal endures wet heat in the jungles of Belize, and dries out in
the Sahara where it is so hot that water in the atmosphere cannot
condense into rain. But the gravest danger may be the warming Earth,
with its rising sea levels, angry skies, deadly droughts, and
devastating storms.
