Travel Guide. Bradt
Publications. 2nd Edition.

Philip Briggs
354 pages / 8 pages color / 35 maps / 2nd Edition
$18.95
This
is Philip Briggs's seventh African travel guide, bearing his hallmark of carefully
researched hard information and enthusiasm for the delights this country has
to offer. Philip describes Ghana as "Africa for beginners", being
as amiable, affordable and hassle-free as practically any other country on
the African continent. This tourist book includes detailed descriptions and
illustrations of the region's wildlife, detailed maps and town plans, and
boxes on cultural subjects ranging from mosque architecture to traditional
festivals.
About Ghana
Ghana
is the most alluring, colorful nation in West Africa. The hospitality of
the Ghanaian people and their vibrant culture are the hallmarks of this
former British colony where English is widely spoken. Visitors may discover
palm-lined beaches and 500-year-old European castles on the coast, or tour the
lesser-known attractions of the interior: the animal-rich savannah of Mole
National Park, the sacred monkeys of Boabeng, the mud-and-stick mosques at
Larabanga and Wa and the spectacular jungle-bound waterfalls of the eastern
highlands.

About
the author
Philip
Briggs is an expert on African travel, whose Bradt tourist guides have become favorites
with travellers for their invaluable and first-hand advice. He has also
written individual country tour guides to Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, South
Africa, Tanzania and Uganda and East & Southern Africa: The Backpacker's
Manual.
Author's
comment
During
the two rapidly paced months we spent researching this guide, barely a day
went by without at least one memorable highlight, be it swimming below one
of the gorgeous waterfalls of the eastern highlands, the thrill of getting
closer on foot to a wild elephant than I ever have in East Africa, climbing
to the roof of one of the surreal mosques that dot the northwest, taking a
dugout canoe through papyrus swamps to the stilted village of Mzulezu, or
watching colorful mona monkeys play between the houses of Baobeng village.
