A
Traveller’s History of India. Interlink
Publishing Group. Size 5”x7¾”
This is an excellent, comprehensive guide to one of the most
intricate cultures on the planet, and it should be useful to visitors
regardless of their primary motivations for visiting India.
India is the birthplace of Hinduism as well as Jainism, Buddhism
and Sikhism, and a greenhouse for Islam, Zorastrianism and other
religions. The countryside is
strewn not only with New Age avatars of ancient belief, but also
magnificent architectural evocations of their evolution. A good tour
guide.

Hotel
& Restaurant Guide India.
Published by the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations of
India. Size 7"x11". 788 pages. Weight 4½ lbs.
This is
a fabulous big book! Absolutely the last word on hotel and
restaurant listings in India, included descriptions, contact
information, prices, and pertinent details. Makes planning so easy
and fun. It's heavy, so just tear out the appropriate pages and take
them with you. Our retail price on this book includes the very high
cost of import air freight, and also the additional shipping and handling
charges above our regular shipping charges.

629 pages. Weight 2.2 lbs. Glossy softcover.
Very
similar to the Hotel & Restaurants book described above, but smaller

contain the restaurant listings for each city. Includes many
interesting and informative 4-color advertisements for hotels and
guesthouses throughout the Indian Subcontinent and Sri Lanka. And
you can take it with you!

India
Railways National Timetables: "Trains At A Glance".
Size 8"x10". 195 pages. Softcover. This is
the big daddy of timetables!
Valid until July of 2002.
All
of India's national railway lines and timetables are represented in this
wonderful book, along with a Station Index, Train Index, 122 pages
of timetables, Route Maps with numbers, tourist information,
passenger information, rules and regulations; and two foldout maps of
India showing all the national and sate railways.
At the top of each page is a graph (a line with circular
dots) showing the route featured on that page (e.g.
"Mumbai-Chennai" {Bombay-Madras], with all the major stops
indicated on the graph. The page itself, will show the complete
timetables for that route. With the largest and most complex
railway system in the world, this timetables book is truly a remarkable
achievement by the Indian Railways Ministry. In addition, there is a
delightful 16-page special section devoted just to the Hill Stations
of India, and arranged according to each state, giving tourist
info on each Hill Station and suggesting railway routes. You'll be
enchanted.

Southern
India Railways and National Railways: "Golden Jubilee Year of
Southern Railways".
Size 8"x10". 204 pages. Softcover. Valid
until July of 2002.
This
timetables book is similar to the one above in that all the national
timetables are included. But in this book the Southern Railways
Timetables covering the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala,
are emphasized and placed at the front of the book, and the
complete schedules for the Chennai Suburban Railway system are also
included.
Also included is a foldout route map of the Southern Railways
system with the train numbers superimposed. What I especially like
about this book is the 50 pages devoted to passenger information,
including phone numbers, advance reservations, refund rules, amenities on
the trains, amenities at the stations, booking of luggage, FARES,
and much more. Invaluable info!! Plus this is the only book
that I've seen that gives complete diagrams of the coach layouts for all
classes including sleeper class. If you plan extensive travel
throughout India, this book is a must!.
