Antarctica - Travel Video.  DVDOn Tour.  26 Minutes.
The Antarctic lies far away from the civilised world and is one of the most beautiful places on Earth, a spectacular wilderness of snow, ice and rock: the last, large eco system on the planet.

In Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world, we begin our expedition by cruise ship to some of the most remote locations in the Antarctic

The boat makes its way along the coastline of a land of icebergs, glaciers and
snow covered islands on the coldest, driest and most deserted continent on Earth.

The journey through the Lemaire Channel is one of the most spectacular maritime passages one could ever experience. Everything looks absolutely newly-created. The channel is about fifteen kilometres long and up to a hundred metres wide, with snow covered islands and icebergs.

Well sheltered between huge icebergs and the immense glaciers of the high mainland mountains, is Paradise Bay that, as its name suggests, is a place of calm as well as being a natural harbour.

Elephant Island is the northernmost of the South Shetland Islands, the last bastion of the Antarctic that towers majestically from amid the Antarctic Ocean and is inhabited by penguins and seals.

Stanley is the capital of the Falkland Islands, a far-flung outpost of the former British Empire. The region contains seven hundred islands of which twenty nine are inhabited.

The ship’s passengers are mesmerised by the spell of the Arctic Circle, by its wildlife, its unique beauty and dramatic landscapes. The grand adventure comes to an end.

Long live Antarctica!

Shackleton's Antarctic Adventure  - Travel Video.  DVD.  40 Minutes.

Originally filmed for the impressively massive IMAX screen, SHACKLETON'S ANTARCTIC ADVENTURE is a gorgeously made film tracking the explorer's legendary 1914 expedition to the icey, uninhabited continent.

Using original still photos, trek photographer Rank Hurley's 35 mm film, and new recreations, the film reconstructs the harrowing exploration, in which the crew's ship was destroyed by ice and the men were forced to survive in the sub-freezing temperatures for almost 2 years.

Antarctica Wildlife Adventure - Travel Video.  National Geographic.  VHS.

Set sail with a family of real-life explorers for the most remote and starkly beautiful continent on earth - Antarctica.  Aboard the 50-foot schooner Damien II, a husband-wife naturalist team and their three sons will guide you on the voyage of a lifetime.
Rocky coasts, azure blue seas, and magnificent towering icebergs set the backdrop for a wide variety of wildlife as you navigate south through the islands of the pristine Antarctic peninsula.  From the deck of the small craft you will see humpback whales perform a graceful underwater ballet.
And while on shore, you will mingle with three species of penguins as well as marvel at young elephant seals at play.  The family members, all seasoned Antarctic explorers, study bustling penguin colonies to gauge the general environmental health of the peninsula. Interestingly, the film reveals that scientists are the primary threat to Antarctica's ecology--in some areas, rusting shipwrecks and abandoned oil drums from scientific expeditions litter the landscape.
There are some excellent camera close-ups of humpback whales surfacing around the small vessel.  Penguin lovers will also enjoy the ample footage of their favorite amiable black-and-white birds.  60 minutes.

Ten million Crabeater seals spend most of their lives on the ice floes, seldom reaching land.  Sir David Attenborough ventures to the bottom of the planet to find out how nature equips these and other remarkable creatures for survival.  60 minutes
