National Parks: Yellowstone, The
Grand Canyon and Yosemite
- Travel Video.
DVD. 4 Hours.
Bring home this must-have
for fans of our national parks! This three-DVD special collection
includes:
Disc #1:
Yellowstone -
Yellowstone was the first national park in the world, and
one of its greatest wildlife preserves.
This immense forest sprawls across 2.2 million acres of land that
features erupting geysers, thundering waterfalls, gurgling hot springs
and incredibly diverse wildlife.
A grizzly bear chases an elk in a life-or-death pursuit. An
antelope doe chases a coyote away from her young.
Bighorn sheep butt heads in angry combat. We also see the great
fire of 1988, and how devastation gave way to new growth.
Go on a guided tour with park rangers into the backcountry, or take
a stagecoach ride into an early-morning cookout. Most of all, absorb the
wondrous natural beauty that exists so abundantly in one of our most
popular national parks.
Disc #2:
Grand Canyon -
From soaring rock formations to the raging whitewater
rapids of the Colorado River, marvel at the majesty of the grandest
canyon on the planet!
For an exhilarating experience, try whitewater rafting or take the
slow and steady route on a pack-mule trip.
Day trips to the Havasupai Indian Reservation, Lake Powell, and
Zion National Park are also included. More than 2,000 years ago, the
Anasazi Indians lived in this region.
This program includes an exclusive segment on Shaman's Gallery,
where many Anasazi rock paintings have been preserved.
Theodore Roosevelt proclaimed the Grand Canyon a national park in
1908, saying "do nothing to mar its grandeur, keep it for your children,
for your children's children, and all who come after you."
Disc #3: Yosemite -
Immortalized by
photographer Ansel Adams and championed by naturalist John Muir,
Yosemite is the most awe-inspiring national park of them all! In
addition to fishing, cross-country skiing and even golfing, the park
offers exciting rock-climbing opportunities on the faces of such peaks
as Half-Dome and El Capitan.
Visit Devil's Postpile National Monument and two more national
parks--Sequoia and King's Canyon--just a few hours away.
The program also captures many images of the diverse wildlife that
roams the vast 1,170 square miles of Yosemite National Park: mile deer,
mountain lions, black bears, coyotes, bighorn sheep and the rare
peregrine falcon.
With all these natural riches, it is small wonder that
Yosemite continues to thrive as one of America's most popular national
parks.

The Grizzlies - Travel Video. VHS. National Geographic.
The magnificent grizzly bear, a beast most often portrayed as a deadly and
dangerous monster, is profiled in detail in this documentary produced by
National Geographic. As the narration of this video notes,
the
grizzly is the undisputed "monarch of the forest," and its only rival is
man. The tension between humans and the great bears is well
documented in this video, which shows how the bears were killed off in
most of the western United States, but are thankfully now protected in
Yellowstone National Park.
In Alaska, the bears are less threatened by humans and are
studied in their natural habitat. As one would expect from National
Geographic, the photography in this documentary is magnificent, and the
footage of the grizzlies in the wild is awesome. Scientists who have
studied the bears, and a man who has trained a grizzly that has appeared
in movies, provide considerable information about the intelligence and
habits of grizzlies.
Footage of scientists who venture into the Alaskan wilderness to a
cave used by grizzlies to hibernate through the long winter, is
fascinating. This is an excellent documentary, being both
educational and entertaining.
Travel from Alaska's Brooks Range to Wyoming's Yellowstone
National Park for a fascinating portrait of this powerful, intelligent,
and extremely aggressive creature. 60 minutes. |
