Rick Steves' Spain and Portugal 2000-2007 - Travel Video.
Rick Steves' Spain and Portugal 2000-2007 - Travel Video.DVD. Six Shows: 3 hours, closed captioned, NTSC format, all region compatible. Here's where we'll take you... The Majesty of Madrid -- Madrid is studded with riches from its glory days. We tour the lavish Royal Palace, enjoy art-packed museums, and look deep into Picasso's greatest masterpiece. Experiencing Madrid at its fun-loving best, we're mesmerized by flamenco dancers and munch on pigs' ears. Then, for a dose of Spain's dramatic history, we side-trip to El Escorial and the Valley of the Fallen. Highlights of Castille: Toledo and Salamanca -- Castille sparkles with Roman Segovia, walled Avila, student-filled Salamanca, and holy Toledo! We marvel at El Greco, pop some explosive pickles, and ramble Spain's most awe-inspiring medieval walls. Then, just for fun, we drop in on a bachelorette party with local troubadours, slice and savor tasty jamon, stroll with the crowd, and grab a front-row seat to enjoy Europe's most enchanting square. Sevilla and Andalusia -- Sevilla is the flamboyant city of Carmen and Don Juan. It's where bullfighting is still politically correct and where little girls dream of growing up to become flamenco dancers. Sevilla has soul -- and we feel it in its lacy Moorish palace, massive cathedral, lavish royal tombs, labyrinthine Jewish quarter, and its people-filled streets. After munching tasty tapas, we head south for Andalusia's ultimate whitewashed hilltown, Arcos de la Frontera. Spain's Costa del Sol -- Here in southern Spain, we explore Granada's Alhambra -- Europe's last and greatest Moorish palace, and we soak up the sun on a Costa del Sol beach. As we check out Gibraltar, a last vestige of the British Empire, we feed the legendary monkeys at the Rock of Gibraltar. Finally, a day trip to Africa takes us to Tangier where we plunge into the exotic, packed-tight markets and streets of old Morocco. Lisbon and the Algarve -- Experiencing the best of Portugal, we start in Lisbon, a ramshackle mix of glorious old and fun-loving new. Salty sailors' quarters and wistful Fado singers mix with ornate architecture to recall the glory days when Vasco da Gama and Magellan made Portugal a world power. After a uniquely matador-brutalizing Portuguese bullfight, we head for the south coast of your travel dreams -- the Algarve. We explore the Land's End of Europe -- windy and historic Cape Sagres before savoring pristine beaches and arm-wrestling octopi in the sleepy fishing village of Salema. Portugal's Heartland -- Leaving Lisbon for the countryside, we eat barnacles in a salty old fishing town, march with pilgrims on the anniversary of a miracle, ponder the local Romeo and Juliet, sample university life, and rummage through the riches of Portugal's Golden Age.

Spain - Travel Video.
Spain - Travel Video.DVD. 7 Days. 52 Minutes. We begin our journey in the Spanish province of Galicia. The Romans conquered San Diago de Compostela, a harbor city that has always been associated with the sea and since the Middle Ages it was, apart from Jerusalem and Rome, the most important pilgrimage destination in Christendom. Some centuries ago each of the large villages of the Rias Baixas prospered due to fishing as did Pontevedra whose old town has been well-preserved with cobbled streets, intimate squares and the residential palaces of the city's former elite. Vigo is reminiscent of Liverpool in the United Kingdom and is the largest city in Galicia. In 1529 the city began to trade with South America and this brought with it a new wave of prosperity. Then followed the Industrial Revolution which gave rise to a modern commercial city with a huge fishing industry. Madrid is Europe's most geographically elevated metropolis, a royal capital of history, outstanding buildings and cultural treasures. Madrid has a boulevard that has transformed it into a major metropolis, the Gran Via, which compares in both design and dimensions with the exquisite streets of Paris and New York. Toledo is one of the oldest and proudest cities in Spain where during Roman times one of the greatest settlements was established, not surprising as it is located on a mighty rock foundation which served a useful purpose for its eventual defense. Barcelona is one of the most lively harbor cities on the Mediterranean and, after Madrid, Spain's second largest city and the capital of Catalonia. On the wide and shady boulevard of La Rambla that passes through the old town to the harbor, life goes on both day and night. The Costa Del Sol is the name of the southern Mediterranean coast of Spain. In former times a variety of bumpy roads connected this region's sandy bays and remote fishing villages where once the Phoenicians and Romans settled long before the arrival of the Moors. Malaga, Seville, Cordoba and finally Granada, the conclusion of our journey through a world of rocky coastlines and sandy beaches, magnificent cities and Moorish castles, an atmospheric land steeped in a wealth of history.

Spain Land of Contrasts - Travel Video.
Spain Land of Contrasts - Travel Video.DVD. Client Denn Digital Camera. 65 Minutes. Spain has always evoked romantic visions: Sun clad Mediterranean beaches;ancient castles;blustery Atlantic fishing ports;high mountain Pyrenees villages; Toledo Steel;and Don Quixote tilting at windmills. The varied landscape, with Europe's second largest plain to the south and mountains higher than the Alps to the north, provide marked contrasts in climate, vegetation, and customs. To compliment the beautiful and varied land are some of Europe's great cities. Three of these are UNESCO World Historical Monuments; Toledo, Salamanca, and Santiago de Compostela. Rich in architectural grandeur, these cities, and many more, show over 2,000 years of splendor so extensive that it seems almost too much to absorb. Spain's 400 years of close trade ties with Greece, 500 years of Roman rule, and 700 years under the Moors is evident today in its diversity and its people. Include stops to enjoy the people, their customs and food along the way. Sleep in the castle, dine in a palace, tilt at a windmill, and even venture into Spanish Africa. Spain Madrid, La Mancha, Toldeo - Travel Video.DVD. Naxos Scenic Musical Journeys. 60 Minutes. The Places We explore the streets, palaces and parks of Madrid, the capital of Castile and of Spain, before turning south to La Mancha, the country of the immortal Don Quixote, and to Toledo, the home of Cervantes and of the great painter known as El Greco. The Music The music of Spain held an exotic attraction for composers from other lands. The Russians Glinka and Rimsky-Korsakov found inspiration here, as did the French composers Lalo, Massenet and Ravel, who claimed Basque descent on his mother's side, and Bizet, whose opera Carmen is imbued with the spirit of the country. Spain provided Verdi with a narrative source, and another Italian, the demon violinist Paganini, was equally a master of the quintessential Spanish instrument, the guitar.

Spain A Musical Tour of Seville - Travel Video.DVD. Naxos Scenic Musical Journeys. 60 Minutes. It retained importance under other Moorish rulers until its reconquest by Fernando III in 1248. It enjoyed the height of prosperity after the discovery of America in 1492. The Music Music for the tour includes two of the suites drawn from the French composer George Bizet's opera Carmen, first staged in Paris in 1875 and drawing on Spanish traditions for its plot and setting and for its transformation of traditional Spanish dances. There are views of Cordoba, with its relics of Moorish occupation and a brief glimpse of the windmills on the plains of La Mancha, buildings Don Quixote once mistook for giants. The Music The music of Spain held an exotic attraction for composers from other countries. The Three Pearls Of Andalucia - Travel Video.
The Three Pearls Of Andalucia - Travel Video.DVD. Cosmos Global Documentaries. 52 Minutes. Along the Rio Guadalquivir is C?rdoba. Today the former caliph's residence of the Omaiyad is a lively city with an historic past. In 152 B.C. the town was founded during the rule of Claudius Marcellu and it was then that the Roman conquerors named it Corduba. Later the town became the capital of the province of Baetica, the hot southern region of Spain. At the beginning of the 8th century the town was the headquarters of its recent conquerors, Arabian governors and emirs and even today the architectural influence of the Moors is visible. In the 10th century A.D. the town reached the zenith of its prosperity. It is believed that almost a million people once lived in the `Mecca of the West'. The Great Mosque, today's Mezquita, was extended and enlarged during that time. Marble, jaspis and granite columns decorate the beautiful interior of the mosque that contains eight hundred columns. The old city of Granada extends across three hills, Sacromonte, the world famous Alhambra and Abaic?n, a once densely populated Moorish district with almost thirty mosques. For several centuries around sixy thousand Moors brought the city's maze of alleys to life but only a few of the historic Islamic buildings and mosques have survived. Seville is today's pulsating capital of Andalucia and is still strongly influenced by the brilliant architectural achievements of the Moors. In former times the Real Alc?zar was the residence of the region's Arabic rulers but most of its buildings were constructed during the reign of Peter The Cruel. Casa De Pilatos is one of the most beautiful palatial buildings in Seville. The residence of the Dukes of Medinacelli was built between 1492 and 1520 following a pilgrimage by one of the dukes to the Holy Land. On his return journey, following the same route that the first Marqu?s of Tarifa took through Italy, he brought back several valuable columns and fountains made of carrara marble that today adorn the beautiful exterior and gardens of the residence. The shoreline of the Guadalquivir River in the land of flamenco is full of life and joie de vivre. The true heart of Spain surely lies in Andalusia in the hot southern region of the Iberian Peninsula.

Albaicin - Travel Video.
Albaicin - Travel Video.DVD. Global Treasures. 10 Minutes. Albaic?n is one of the most picturesque areas in Granada and is famous for both its history as well as its numerous beautifully decorated buildings. In the 7th century B.C., first the Iberians and then the Romans and Visigoths settled here in the spacious hill area above the River Darro. However, it was only under the rule of the Moors, when Granada became an independent Islamic kingdom, that the region began to flourish. Even today the splendour of the former Islamic monarchy is highlighted by the world famous and legendary Alhambra Palace. Due to a peace treaty with the Christians'military leaders, Mohammed The First had the impressive castle built. Over the years the Alhambra was extended and its architecture was embellished by its royal inhabitants until the town finally fell to the Catholic Kings. In Albaic?n the glorious atmosphere of old Granada can still be felt amid its buildings, its lanes and even in the air. For the architectural legacy of the Moors continues to enchant all those who experience it, right up to the present day.

Alhambra - Travel Video.
Alhambra - Travel Video.DVD. Global Treasures. 10 Minutes. In southern Spain, majestically, yet mysteriously, the legendary Alhambra proudly rises above Granada's atmospheric old town. After C?rdoba, former centre of power of the caliphs, had fallen into the hands of the Christians in 1238, Granada became the country's new capital city. Mohammed The First ordered the construction of the Alhambra's massive walls and twenty-four watch towers above the remains of a comparatively modest fortress. King Charles The Fifth deliberately built his palace at this location as it had once been the last bastion of Muslim power in Spain. It thus symbolised the triumph of the Christian world. In addition to the external splendour of the Christian palace the full beauty of its Moorish architecture is only fully revealed by exploring its glorious interior. Thus the despair of the last Nasrides ruler strikes a poignant chord today for, according to legend, when he was forced to abandon his palace to the Christian armies without a fight, his eyed filled with tears as he glanced back at his beloved Alhambra.

Alhambra - Travel Video.
Alhambra - Travel Video.DVD. Terra Mystica. 26 Minutes. Built during the 13th and 14th centuries, the Alhambra is a group of buildings that overlook Granada. The finest example of Moorish architecture, it was a magnificent citadel for the Moorish kings of Spain. When the Moors were expelled from Spain, the citadel was mutilated but in the 19th century, it was restored to its former glory. Close by is the Palacio Del Generalife, the summer residence of the Moorish rulers, on the grounds of which contain fabulous gardens. The Moors were a nomadic North African people consisting mainly of Arabs and Berbers. They invaded Spain in the 8th century and were expelled from it in the early 17th century, prior to which most had been exterminated during the Spanish Inquisition. Yet, their contribution to Spain in terms of medicine, art, architecture and science, was immeasurable. A people of commerce, learning, imagination and panache who, like so many of their kind throughout history, were eventually persecuted to near extinction.

In Algarrobo, a white village close to the coast, time seems to have stood still. It is a place of both inspiration and contemplation. Since Phoenician times the earlier `Malaca' was a busy trading port that was defended by the Castillo De Gibralforo. The Cathedral, also known as `La Manquita', symbolizes a Catholic victory on the former site of a mosque. On the edge of the city centre is the Moorish fortress of Alcazaba that was once a fortified residence on the hills of Castillo. The second largest city in Andalusia also became known as the birthplace of its famous son, world famous artist Pablo Ruiz Picasso. Cathedral of Santiago of Compostela Spain - Travel Video.DVD. Global Treasures. 10 Minutes. The beautiful main facade of the Cathedral Santiago De Compostela rises proudly into the sky, the final destination of a legendary medieval pilgrimage route. For more than twelve hundred years the marvellous buildings of the old town, as well as the striking cathedral, have attracted visitors from all over the world. During the Middle Ages the town enjoyed great prominence. In addition to Jerusalem and Rome, Santiago De Compostela was the third most important Christian pilgrimage destination. Its beautiful main facade combines various decorative and architectural elements that are to be found along the pilgrims' way, the Camino de Santiago. In addition to the imposing cathedral there are further treasures hidden within the historical centre of the town such as the 16th century Colegio De Fonseca. Unlike the architectural transformation of its external fa?ade most of the cathedral's interior has retained its original form. The church's main nave and altar, with its precious and exquisite decoration, are a remarkable religious work of art. Cordoba Spain - Travel Video.
Cordoba Spain - Travel Video.DVD. Vista Point. 26 Minutes. Cordoba was once the most important metropolis of the Caliphate and today is a city of harmony and contrast. It is a city in which the history of the Caliphs, Romans, Jews and Christians is still very much alive and was the centre of the Arab realm of Al-Andalus that reached its peak in around 1000 A.D. The Ponte Romana extends across the Gudalquivir and leads to the old town. With its sixteen arches the Roman bridge that spans across the river is one of the city's main landmarks. The city's most important building is the Mezquita Catedral in the centre of the old town. It is undoubtedly the most splendid mosque of Moorish-Islamic origin on the Iberian Peninsula. Construction of the main mosque began in 785 A.D. during the rule of Abd-Ar-Rahman The First. The world's third largest mosque was built on the site of a West Gothic Christian church that was built on the remains of a Roman temple. The Plaza Santa Marina dates back to the 17th century and was once used as a bull-fighting arena and also as a theatrical stage. Today it is frequently used as a marketplace. The striking monument of the famous Spanish toreador, Manolete, who was killed during a bullfight inside the arena, occupies a large section of the square. Mighty walls surround the Medina. Some of its old gates have survived such as the Puerta De Almodovar that leads into the Jewish quarter. Once known as a wealthy city, Cordoba was considered to be a worthy prize and was thus well protected and fortified. A combination of the Arabic, Jewish and Christian worlds, Cordoba is most deservedly the Pearl of Andalusia!

Galicia Spain - Travel Video.
Galicia Spain - Travel Video.DVD. Vista Point. 26 Minutes. Our journey through romantic northern Spain travels south through Galicia along the Atlantic coast. A Coru?a is the region's largest industrial city and shipping harbour and it thought to have been founded by the Phoenicians in 60 A.D. The Romans conquered this harbour city that has always been associated with the sea and it was from A Coru?a that the invincible Spanish Armada set sail in1588 to invade Spain. Santiago De Compostela is the capital of Galicia and since the Middle Ages it was, apart from Jerusalem and Rome, the most important pilgrimage destination in Christendom. Half a million pilgrims came here each year from all over Europe and Spain's most religious city continues to attract the faithful. Some centuries ago each of the large villages of the Rias Baixas prospered due to fishing, as did Pontevedra. However, all this changed when its harbour was engulfed by sand some three hundred years ago. In contrast to Spain's many other harbour cities, the old town of Pontevedra is almost the same now as it was in bygone times with cobbled streets, intimate squares and the residential palaces of the city's former elite. Across a huge chain bridge that spans the mouth of a deep river is Galicia`s largest city, Vigo. Its name is of Roman origin and it is believed that Vicus Spacorum was the starting-point of Caesar's campaign against Britannia, as well as a storage area for his Empire's oil, fish and wine. For many centuries A Guarda, `the Female Guard', has watched over the river border with Portugal and in the wooded mountain city of Monte Santa Tecla the Celts established a settlement that contained more than a thousand buildings that dated back to the 6th and 3rd centuries B.C. and formed part of a prehistoric settlement. Throughout the centuries life in Galicia was not representative of that in the rest of Spain and both Romans and Moors considered it to be too remote for their interests. Maybe that's what makes it such a special place to be!

Madinat Al-Zahara Spain - Travel Video.DVD. Global Treasures. 10 Minutes. A few kilometres outside the city of C?rdoba in southern Spain lie the remains of a once legendary Moorish palace district, the Mahdinat Al-Zahra. It is believed that in around 936 A.D. the Moorish monarch, Abd Ar-Rahman The Third, ordered the construction of the huge residence. Work on the palace, the administrative sections and the gardens took more than forty years to complete. Over ten thousand workmen were involved in its construction but today little of the former splendour of this `Andalusian Versailles' is apparent as only the mighty ruins of the former terraced palace have survived to the present day. Thanks to the intensive restoration and reconstruction work of recent years the buildings of the former Reception Hall provide a fascinating insight into the royal court of the Moors. The Sal?n of Abd Ar-Rahman The Third shines out once again in all of its ancient and glorious splendour. Soon after its completion the Mahdinat Al-Zahra was described as a `wonder of the western hemisphere', a fairy-tale-like synthesis of the arts located upon the picturesque southern slopes of the Sierra Morena.

Toledo Spain - Travel Video.
Toledo Spain - Travel Video.DVD. Global Treasures. 10 Minutes. Toledo is one of the oldest and proudest cities in Spain and during Roman times a large settlement was established there. Later, the Visi Goths recognized the strategic value of this city on the Rio Tajo and it became the capital of their empire. Elevated on a mighty rock foundation the Toledo's unique location served a useful purpose for its eventual defense as the city was the scene of many a bloody battle. In 712 A.D. the capital of the Visi Goths was violently integrated with the Muslim Empire of Al-Andalus. Throughout the centuries Toledo has been regarded as a cultural centre of medieval Spain and was known as a `City of Three Cultures' as it was here that Arabs, Jews and Christians lived together in peace until the time when the catholic church grew intolerant of other religions. In 1229, construction work on the monumental Toledo Cathedral began and in 1493 the Gothic masterpiece was completed. The proportions of this enormous cathedral make it one of the most spectacular in Spain. The mighty fortress of Alc?zar is a world apart from the cathedral and served as the model for the later building of El Escorial. Since its construction in the 16th century, the city's landmark was rebuilt and restored following numerous wars and hostilities. The massive Bisagra Gate embodies yet another symbol of the fusion between Arabic Moorish and Spanish Castilian architecture. Swathed in colourful and dramatic history Toledo enjoys a unique place among all of Spain's old and fascinating cities.

Barcelona - Travel Video.
Barcelona - Travel Video.DVD. Vista Point. 26 Minutes. Barcelona is one of the most lively harbour cities on the Mediterranean and after Madrid, Spain's second largest city and the capital of Catalonia. Intimate squares, small palaces and tangled alleys provide a good insight into its history as Iberians, Greeks and Romans once had trading posts there. La Rambla is a wide and shady boulevard that travels through the old town to the harbour and is where life goes on both night and day. It's also where street artists perform, shoeblacks work diligently and portrait painters tout for trade among the passing tourists. The Museu Maritim Drassanes is situated in the royal dockyards that were built when the city was at its zenith. Its buildings are unique examples of Gothic architecture and the vast dimensions of the dockyard allowed thirty ships to be built simultaneously in the name of the Catalonian-Aragon crown. Few parks are as famous as the Park G?ell. With this, Antoni Gaudi created a new design concept in this fabulous garden city. At its entrance Gaudi placed a colourful lizard as a symbol of the water that is collected in subterranean cisterns and is used for the distribution of water in the park. The city itself also featured in Gaudi's magnificent fantasies. The Palau G?ell was treated to an ostentatious roof with a great array of air shafts and chimneys. But the sight that captures the imagination of most who see it is the amazing fa?ade of the Casa Mila, a unique apartment block without equal. Not a single wall is straight, glass and plaster were used for its fa?ade and colourful ornamental ceramics complete the work. Barcelona is a melting pot that ranges from Gothic to Modernism, a veritable explosion of joie de vivre and creativity.

La Sagrada Familia Barcelona Spain - Travel Video.
La Sagrada Familia Barcelona Spain - Travel Video.DVD. Modern Times Wonders In 1883, Antonio Gaudi accepted the commission to continue the construction of the `Church of the Poor', La Sagrada Familia. Located to the north of Barcelona, this unusual building brought about a return to the teachings of Catholicism and Gaudi devoted the last 40 years of his life to the building that remains, even to this day, unfinished. Completed by Gaudi, the eastern facade is often referred to as the most ingenious sculpture of the century and all four of its facades have been designed to depict the life of the Son of God. The building surprises everyone with its originality yet the main interior is still an enormous building site. The ceiling of the main church is composed of individual sections. The decorative elements contained in the many towers unite to take on the shape of flowers and fruit with subtle screw-shaped columns supporting the ceiling that creates an image of woodland. It is only when comparison is made between Antonio Gaudi's original plans and sketches and present day progress that it becomes apparent how each design element is today being painstakingly realized. Rather than false beautification, and in order to achieve realism, each of the statues and figures derives from photographs and plaster models posed for ordinary people from the streets of Barcelona. This really is a building with a difference!

Madrid Spain - Travel Video.
Madrid Spain - Travel Video.DVD. Vista Point. 26 Minutes. Madrid is Europe's most elevated metropolis, a royal capital of history, outstanding buildings and cultural treasures. Most of Spain's royal palaces are in Madrid, the capital of Spain since the 17th century. Including the Palacio Real that even today serves as a royal castle. The colossal building of grey granite and limestone owes its impressive appearance to its length of five hundred metres and strategic elevated location. On the southern side of the castle is Madrid's most recent cathedral, La Almudena. It boasts a combination of styles between New Gothic and Classical and was two hundred years in construction. Madrid also has a boulevard that has transformed it into a major metropolis, the Gran Via, that compares in both flair and dimensions with the exquisite streets of Paris and New York, with splendid noble buildings along with the contemporary. What the Gran Via a hundred years ago the Paseo De La Castellana achieved comparable renown at the end of the last millennium: a replica of Manhattan, the Zona Azca. A modern city district with spectacular skyscrapers and spacious streets where chrome, glass and concrete dominate the futuristic skyline. The royal splendour of former times has managed to successfully combine with the contemporary, and today Madrid is no less flamboyant - a city of historic joie de vivre!

El Escorial (Real Monasterio De San Lorenzo De El Escorial) Spain - Travel Video.
El Escorial (Real Monasterio De San Lorenzo De El Escorial) Spain - Travel Video.DVD. Global Treasures. 10 Minutes. Around fifty kilometres northwest of Madrid, the austere yet opulent residence of El Escorial extends up the southern slope of the Sierra De Guadarrama. It was built during the rule of King Phillip II after his father Karl V ordered him to build a magnificent church in which he would eventually be buried. The Escorial was to be a pantheon for the Spanish aristocracy and also served as the country's new centre of authority. In rooms such as the Pudridero the significance of El Escorial as a burial place is evident. King Phillip II required that the exterior of the building should be plain and simple in contrast to the interior with its unusual works of art and priceless treasures. The impressive art museum contains an exclusive collection by important artist such as Titian, Tintoretto, Rubens, Van Dyck, Hieronymus Bosch, Vel?zquez and El Greco. In the royal pantheon, the Pante?n De Reyes, lie the coffins of eleven Spanish monarchs. The splendid marble coffins with their golden inscriptions add both dignity and elegance to this burial place. Philipp II was not only a larger-than-life tyrant, he was also an educated man who supported science and the arts. El Escorial was his most significant bequest to Spain.

Seville Spain - Travel Video.
Seville Spain - Travel Video.DVD. Vista Point. 26 Minutes. Seville is a gem of a city and Andalusia's most fascinating metropolis. In the centre of the old town is the Real Alcazar that was originally home to numerous Moorish monarchs and later the domicile of Spanish kings. It's said to be the oldest and most fascinating palace complex in the whole of Europe. Christopher Columbus was welcomed in the palace when he returned from his second voyage to America after having established a trading route with the New World. Its unique mixture of numerous cultures and ?poques augments the atmosphere of exquisite luxury. With its labyrinth of white alleys, Santa Cruz is the city's old Jewish district and is located close to both the Real Alcazar and the Catedral. Grated windows, flowerpots on the walls and old wooden gates are typical of this area of the city that exemplifies the traditional Andalusian way of life. The Plaza De Toros and the seasonal hustle and bustle of its bullfights, dominates the El Arenal, the city's former harbour district. Designed in the 18th century by Vicente San Martin, the bullfight arena was fully restored in the middle of the 19th century. The Giralda and the Patio De Los Naranjos are the only remains of Sevilla?s Almohadian Mosque. The rest of the temple was destroyed by the Christians. Construction began in 1401 and it became the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. After the Petersdom in Rome and St. Paul's in London it is the third largest Christian building in the world. With its rich cultural inheritance bequeathed by both the Moors and the Christians, Seville is a truly incredible city with a flamboyant way of life and fiery Latin temperament!

Real Palaces of Seville - Travel Video.
Real Palaces of Seville - Travel Video.DVD. Global Treasures. 10 Minutes. REAL ALC?ZAR DE SEVILLA Andalusia, Spain The royal palace of Real Alc?zar is located in Seville, the capital of the autonomous Spanish province of Andalusia. Dating back to the 8th century and formerly the oldest citadel built by the Moors, the palace was built on the ruins of a Roman fortress when the Almohaden transformed it into a palace. Following the conquest of the city, the Christian kings and most notably, Don Pedro, employed the best Moorish builders and artists, the Mudejaren. In the Hall of the Envoys the wall tiles contain many Moorish designs and it was here that the country's rulers received envoys from abroad. The furnishings and household goods of the royal private rooms were collected from around most of the known world. The Gala Dining Room is particularly outstanding. It contains precious wall carpets and crystal chandeliers from Murano and a huge table dominates almost the entire length of the room. Moorish arcades lead to the Andalusian Gardens that were planted in place of the original kitchen gardens and many of the courtyards feature a small water fountain that adds to the calm atmosphere. Real Alc?zar is the most beautiful example of Mudejar design, a fairy tale from the `One Thousand And One Nights'!
