The emphasis is on spoken Brazilian Portuguese, distinguishing the nasal and the non-nasal vowels. There are dialogs of natural, everyday conversations between native speakers, emphasizing the difference between Portuguese spelling and speech. The dialogs for memorization are presented in three steps: pronunciation, fluency, and participation. At the end of each recorded lesson unit in volume 1, a brief "culture capsule" in English provides insight into the customs and language usage of native speakers.
