It is a stimulating and infectious approach, designed to cultivate rapid and lasting enthusiasm for Sanskrit. Important features of the work are the use of connected passages for exercise which are intrinsically more interesting and challenging than the unrelated sentences found in other grammars; the great deal of attention given to the explanation of the Devanagari system; and the extensive appendices and glossaries in a separate volume.   Customer Review: "I have seen a few others and tried using one of them, but this set by Maurer is easily the best I have come across. The script is easy to read and the grammar is carefully presented to make it possible for the beginner to start using and enjoying the language immediately. Additionally, the second volume provides a historical overview of the language and other Indo-European tongues, all the conjugational and declensional paradigms, and a two-way dictionary for easy reference. It's expensive - the author sacrificed his royalties to force the publishers into a hardcover - but well worth the money."
