Blue Danube Cruise Wachau (A Journey Through The Middle Ages) - Travel Video.
DVD. On Tour. 26 Minutes. Wachau is a World Heritage Site, a combination of cultivated landscape and the blue and mighty Danube. A boat journey on the famous river is the ideal way of observing the captivating villages and splendid wine growing terraces along its banks. The old town of Stein extends along a narrow section of the river with attractive buildings set amid atmospheric lanes in which beautifully restored facades shine out in the bright sunlight. Krems was first mentioned in 995 A.D and its main square contains several impressive houses that once belonged to the city's middle class inhabitants. The facades of the 16th and 18th century buildings are historic treasures, one of which was the birthplace of the mother of Franz Liszt. In Weissenkirchen where the Granite Gneiss Plateau, its rock formations and Bohemian forests reach down to the river, are fertile terraces on which grow Austria's most famous wine. The wine is beautifully balanced and its appealing lightness and gentle acidity are what make it so popular. In spite of devastating fires in 1793, Weissenkirchen is now one of the most picturesque villages of the Wachau. The village of Spitz lies in the heart of the Wachau and is closely associated with steam navigation that was first used on the Danube in 1829. The Danube Valley enjoys a temperate climate and strong vines flourish on the slopes of Tausendeimer Mountain. The Danube Valley of the Wachau is a romantic gem set amid a glorious landscape.

Castles Throughout Time - Travel Video.
Goldhil Home Media. 5 Volume, Gift Boxed Set. VHS. "Castles Throughout Time" visits and explores the history behind castles along the shores of the Mediterranean built between the second century B.C. through the nineteenth century A.D. This beautiful series combines stunning photography, rich textures, captivating stories and vivid reenactments to provide a visual ambiance and bring to life a magnificent era. Castles Throughout Time is a series about the history of castles from their origins until the present. The Castles were the product of European Medieval society, and they developed and expanded throughout the Mediterranean region. Occupying more than 500 kilometers of the eastern coast of Spain, it is not surprising that the Valencia region was a popular entry point for invaders from the Mediterranean. This beautiful five volume set includes: VOLUME ONE Sagunto, City of Discord It was here where the Romans first entered Spain, the Old Hispania, after the heroic resistance of the inhabitants of the city of Sagunto, in second century B.C., against the armies of the Carthaginian General Hannibal. Allah Is Great! Upon arrival on the Valencia coast in the year 713 A.D., the Muslims built the first castles in the Spanish Peninsula. The signing of a pact with the Visigoth governor, Theodomirus, facilitated the relocation of the Muslims. However, the conditions of the pact were not agreed upon until the Muslim's arrival to Valencia. VOLUME TWO Denia, The Guardian of the Day In 8th century, Hispania would be known as Al Andalus and would reach its golden age between the 10th and 11th centuries. Such was the power of the small kingdom of Denia, that its control of trade reached out over the whole western Mediterranean. Its lord and master, the brilliant Muyahid, in his seaboard castle, surrounded himself with a court of wise men, intellectuals and poets formed by Muslims, Christians and Jews from far and wide. From Africa They Will Come The expansionist drives of the Feudal European kingdoms, as well as the conquests of the legendary "The Cid", spelled the end of the Almoravids and later the Almohades. The country of Al-Andalus became part of a vast Muslim empire with its capital in Marrekesh, Morocco. These fanatical Islamic warriors reinforced the castles along the Valencia coast in a desperate bid to ward off the inevitable. Don Jaime For Valencia The Almoravides and the Almohades were clearly not strong enough to stop the feudal knights. Under the auspices of Aragonese King James I, with the church solidly behind him, they conquered these lands in less than a decade. Founding and colonizing in the year 1238, the new kingdom of Valencia became what is now the community of Valencia. VOLUME THREE Lions in War, Sheep in the Cloister In this episode, the history of the castles is directly linked to the origin and development of the old Templar, Hospitaller, Santiago and Montesa Knight Orders, who gave their lives to defend the sacred grounds of Christian Jerusalem. The Dance of Death "There was a time when life revolved around the castle, from it governed the nobility, and above it, only God's heaven extended." This documentary is a journey through the Middle Ages. All the words and opinions expressed in it have been reproduced from the texts of the period. The words speak for themselves. Belts of Stone From the destruction of the biblical city of Jericho to the Roman Empire from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century, cities fortified by circles of stone were to be silent witnesses of the evolution of mankind. The guardians of the progress of society. VOLUME FOUR Once Upon a Time A trip through time, through the mythology that surrounds the castles and their habitants. The castle is intrinsically connected to fantasy. Even a part of a tower or wall is sufficient to conjure up in the visitor's mind, a grandiose world of tournaments, princes, witches, secret passageways and dungeons. Sentinels of the Sea The expansion of the Turkish Empire and the possible loss of control of the Mediterranean in the 16th century led the Spanish Emperor Philip II to order the building of watchtowers and fortifications to defend the coasts. This strategy was to be repeated along the coasts of Central American and the Philippines. VOLUME FIVE Iron and the Fire The first conflicts between the emerging English Empire and the French were fought in the Mediterranean against the backdrop of an imperial Spain in decline.
